1 min read

A Brownsville man was killed early Sunday when his home caught fire.

Anthony J. Willis, 47, of 556 Fifth Ave., died after he turned on his stove and fell asleep.

The fire happened after 1 a.m., when Willis returned home and began preparing food on the stove, state police said.

Willis then fell asleep in another room, and the stove caught fire. Willis awakened but was unable to escape his home, police said.

His body was discovered hours later by a friend.

The fire was ruled accidental by a state police fire marshal. An investigation is pending an autopsy.
