Man arrested after chase on Route 43
An Allegheny County man was arrested on firearms and traffic violations after he reportedly fled from state police during a traffic stop Sunday on Route 43 in Carroll Township.
A state trooper was operating radar on the toll road just before noon when he said vehicle driven by Deontae Napolean Davis, 20, of McKees Rocks, was clocked going 82 mph in the 65-mph zone. When the trooper turned on the emergency lights and siren on his cruiser, he said Davis fled north on the toll road.
Police continued to pursue the Davis until the right rear tire on his car blew out. He then crashed into a concrete median before hitting an unmarked state police cruiser involved in the pursuit.
Davis and another man who was a front-seat passenger fled from the vehicle, while two woman remained in the back seat, police said. As they ran, Davis and the other man allegedly threw two guns to the ground, along with a bag of marijuana. Police recovered the weapons, a 9mm Smith & Wesson and a .380-caliber Ruger. Davis was apprehended by state police.
The front-seat passenger, whose information was not immediately available, was apprehended off a trail near the toll road by Jefferson Hills police, state police said. Charges are pending against him.
Davis was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of possessing a firearm with an altered number, altering or obliterating identification marking, person not to possess a firearm, possessing a firearm without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude police, possession of marijuana, speeding, careless driving, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. He was placed in Washington County jail on $200,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 22 before District Judge Mark Wilson.
