Driver fleeing from police killed in car crash in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A driver fleeing from police has died after crashing his car in Pittsburgh.

KDKA-TV reports that the police chase started around 2 a.m. Wednesday on Frankstown Avenue in the Homewood neighborhood. Police say the driver hit a police car then drove off.

Police say the 22-year-old driver lost control about 90 seconds later, hit a power pole and crashed into a building on Frankstown Avenue near Dornbush Street. Power was knocked out in the area. Frankstown Avenue was closed in both directions.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger was hospitalized and is expected to live.

The driver’s name was not released.
