MONONGAHELA – A New Eagle man was jailed Tuesday on charges he sold a stamp bag of heroin two days earlier to a 17-year-old girl who recently had completed a drug rehabilitation program.

The girl overdosed on the drug shortly after police said she purchased it from Matthew J. Harrison, 22, of 108 Main St., court records state.

The girl, accompanied by her mother while being treated for the overdose at Mon Valley Hospital, confessed to purchasing the heroin from Harrison about 8 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Chess Street in Monongahela, city police claimed in the affidavit supporting the charges in the case.

The girl said Harrison first refused to sell her heroin because she was in recovery, but he changed his mind after she told him the drug was for her friend.

Police were later summoned to the Chess Street home after the girl overdosed in the attic.

Harrison is charged with soliciting a minor to traffic drugs, drug possession with intent to deliver, reckless endangerment and corruption of minors.

He is in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
