Police beat Dec. 11

Drug charges: Mark L. Crowell, 38, of 14 Hillcrest Ave., Burgettstown, and Teresa May Cook, 27, of 146 Francis Mine Road, Burgettstown, both face charges of possession of heroin and paraphernalia stemming from a reported overdose Sunday at an apartment at 1443 Main St., Burgettstown. McDonald police said they searched the apartment and found suspected heroin and paraphernalia. Police said Crowell was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of the overdose. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.

Disorderly house charges: Tiana Batiz, 19, of Philadelphia; Brittney Smalls, 20, of Howells, N.J.; McNeal Stewart, 19, of Elkhart, Ind.; and Hope Spencer, 20, and Bri Thomas, 21, both of Pittsburgh, were charged by California police with violating the disorderly house ordinance for allegedly having a loud party in the early morning hours of Dec. 3. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.

Unauthorized use: Deborah Spangler of Washington told state police Saturday an 18-year-old Washington man took her 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo without her permission. The car then got stuck in a yard at 16 Edgewood Ave., Canton. Police said charges are pending.

Pumps stolen: Two Honda water pumps were reported stolen Tuesday from a retention pond on property owned by Waste Management, Chartiers police said.

Scrap stolen: Scrap metal was reported stolen Monday from the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, Museum Road, Chartiers police said.

Excavator stolen: State police said a Caterpillar excavator valued at $99,900 was stolen between Dec. 3 and Tuesday from a well site at 246 Fallen Timber Road, Independence. The thief would have needed a low-boy trailer to haul away the equipment, police said. The excavator is owned by Steve Opell Excavating of Ashland, Ky.

Sidewalk damaged: A vandal damaged a newly poured concrete sidewalk in front of 121 North St. by writing two names and stepping on it sometime last week, McDonald police said. The heated sidewalk is valued at $6,700. The contractor, Paul Gradeck, said the cement did not had time to dry before the vandalism was done.

Escape injury: Lisa L. Bak, 55, of Pine Nut Drive, Eighty Four, and Kathleen Cooper, 51, of Skyview Drive, Canonsburg, escaped injury Tuesday night when their vehicles collided at Morganza and McClelland roads. North Strabane police said Bak was attempting to make a left turn from Morganza onto McClelland and turned into the path of Cooper’s vehicle. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Theft: Scott M. Jordan, 30, of Duncan Avenue, Washington, was arrested at his home Nov. 29 on charges he stole gasoline at several gas stations in Peters Township over a period of five months, police said. Jordan was released on his own recognizance.

Cellphone stolen: Jen Mangiamella of Cranberry told McDonald police early Sunday her iPhone was stolen while she was at the Mouse Trap, 9212 Old Steubenville Pike, Robinson.

Vehicle scratched: Toni Dillard of Beech Street, South Strabane, told South Strabane police Monday her vehicle was scratched while parked in the lot at Thomas Campbell Apartments, Beech Street.

Suspicious incident: A 20-year-old woman told Southwest Regional police a man knocked on her door about 8:30 Friday night and told her he was a door-to-door salesman selling a dog. She did not open the door. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-929-8484.

Theft: Sandy Rogers of Campbell Avenue reported to city police a Christmas tree was stolen from her front porch between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Fraud charges: Jeremiah J. Dyer, 22, of Harvey, Ill., was charged by city police with multiple counts of access device fraud and receiving stolen property stemming from an attempted transaction Tuesday at Citizens Bank on South College Street. City police said he attempted to take out an $800 cash advance on a credit card, which turned out to be stolen. He was arraigned by District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond.

Assault: City police responded to an assault at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of North Main Street. John Swierczek and Ronald Slater told police they were assaulted by two men whom they know. Swierczek had several facial injuries. Police are searching for the suspects.

Burglary: Josh Smith of the 100 block of Hart Avenue reported to city police his residence was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. He told police pills were strewn across a bed and $21 was missing.
