Man shot in thigh in Washington
A 23-year-old Washington man told city police late Wednesday he was shot while out with his dog in the backyard of his Church Street home.
Kawan Wright told police he was letting his dog out about 11:30 p.m. when he was approached by a large black man wearing a black sweatshirt. Wright told the man to be careful because his dog was loose.
The man then reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Wright in the thigh. Police said it appeared the gun was pointed down when it was fired. They said it also appeared the shot went through the right pocket of the pants Wright was wearing, because there was gunshot residue.
Wright also had burn marks on his right hand. He told emergency medical personnel he was burned while struggling with his alleged assailant over the gun.
Police took Wright’s clothing into evidence and are continuing their investigation. Wright was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
