Expansion planned for northeast Ohio racino

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio (AP) – One of Ohio’s racinos is already planning a major expansion.

ThistleDown racino southeast of Cleveland is proposing a $70 million expansion that will include a new steakhouse, bar, 250 more slot machines and a parking garage.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports that the plans were included in a summary of activities presented to the Ohio Lottery Commission, which regulates the seven race track-casino hybrids. But a spokeswoman for the facility declined to comment Friday.

The proposal says the restaurant will overlook the race track, the gaming floor will be expanded and a three-level parking garage will have 750 spaces.

The 89-year-old track opened as a racino in April 2013 following an $88 million renovation. It has more than 1,200 video lottery terminals that operate like slots.
