Female Philadelphia firefighter being laid to rest

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A funeral is set for the first female firefighter in Philadelphia to die in the line of duty.

Services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Philadelphia for Joyce Craig, who died Tuesday fighting a house fire. She became trapped in the basement of a burning home where an elderly woman was later rescued.

The mother of two served 11 years with the city fire department.

Black bunting was hanging from firehouses across the city, and flags have been lowered to half-staff as hundreds of firefighters from Philadelphia and beyond prepare to pay their last respects.

Services were to be held at Batchelor Brothers Funeral Services, where a viewing was held Friday night. A second viewing was planned for Saturday morning just before the funeral.
