Two men arrested in assault of city man
Two men were arrested after they allegedly assaulted a 31-year-old Washington man Monday afternoon in Washington’s West End.
John Michael Skaggs Jr., 23, of 1681 Weirich Ave., Canton Township, and Edwin Rivera, 23, of the Bronx, N.Y., are each charged with aggravated and simple assault for reportedly beating Timothy Harris.
City police were called about 4:20 p.m. to the area of the Canton Township building, 655 Grove Ave., for a report of a man bleeding from the head.
Harris told Officer Johnathan Miller he was in the 700 block of West Chestnut Street when two or three men came up from behind him. They reportedly threw rocks at Harris. One of them also threw a beer bottle, hitting Harris in the face. Harris was knocked to the ground and kicked in the face.
Harris was able to give Miller a description of his two attackers. The two were found in the 700 block of West Chestnut. They were taken to a Canton convenience store where a witness to the attack identified them as Harris’ assailants. The witness told police Skaggs kicked Harris and said Rivera went after Harris with a brick. Rivera also reportedly threatened to shoot Harris,
Harris was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a possible broken arm and head injuries.
Both men were arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $30,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 29 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
