South Strabane approves budget with no tax increase
South Strabane Township officials on Tuesday approved a final budget for 2015, which will keep the real estate tax the same.
Township Manager John Stickle said the township last raised taxes in 2009 to 8 mills, then lowered the rate to 7.5 mills about three years ago. There has not been a tax increase since.
“The growth in development in the township has been a big factor in keeping the millage rate low,” Stickle said. “We’ve had commercial growth and some residential growth in terms of new buildings, and that’s helped our assessed valuation, which is applied to the millage.”
The budget anticipates $5.3 million in revenues and $5.2 million in expenditures.
The board of supervisors also voted to renew the fire department’s insurance with Huntington Insurance at a cost of $31,111.
