First assistant district attorney administered oath
WAYNESBURG – Brianna Vanata was administered the oath of office Friday morning as the new first assistant district attorney for Greene County. Friday also marked the last day for retiring first assistant district attorney Linda Chambers, who served in that capacity since 2001.
Raised in Greensboro, Vanata is a graduate of Mapletown High School. She graduated magna cum laude from California University of Pennsylvania’s honors program with a dual degree in history and political science. She attained her juris doctor from Duquesne University’s School of Law in 2006.
While in law school, Vanata interned with Pittsburgh’s Neighborhood Legal Services and with the Greene County District Attorney’s office. After graduating and working in private practice for several years, she had the opportunity to return to the district attorney’s office in 2010, this time as an assistant district attorney. As a prosecutor, she tries all types of cases, but her primary areas are sexual assault and child abuse.
Vanata resides in Greene County with her husband John and their two children. She is the daughter of Janet Boord and the late Lawrence “Butch” Boord of Greensboro. She is an avid gardener and reader, enjoys cooking, art and spending time with her family.
