Christmas morning fire kills 1 near Pittsburgh
PENN HILLS (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania say at least one person died in an early morning fire on Christmas.
The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office was called to the scene of the blaze that was reported at 5:30 a.m. Christmas morning in Penn Hills.
Emergency officials said one person had been confirmed dead and crews were searching for another person in the burned-out remains of the home.
Penn Hills public information officer Diane Fitzhenry told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that police and firefighters tried to get into the home but entry through the front door was blocked.
Officials said the home was gutted and most of the roof collapsed.
