Tractor-trailer hauling garbage overturns on I-79

1 min read

A tractor-trailer hauling garbage overturned Friday morning on Interstate 79 in Amwell Township, but the driver was not seriously injured, state police said.

Police said the northbound truck went over an embankment south of the Lone Pine exit and rolled down a hillside shortly after 7 a.m.

The tractor-trailer was the only vehicle involved in the crash, police said.

Trash littered the hillside, and it took hours for the scene to be cleaned up.

Northbound traffic was backed up for several miles as a result. Parts of the right northbound lane where the crash occurred were closed so that crews could clean and investigate. Several related crashes were reported. One person was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries after a three-vehicle crash. An emergency dispatcher said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Police are investigating what caused the truck driver, who was not immediately identified, to lose control of the rig.
