Suspect sought in South Hills Village robbery

Bethel Park police are beefing up security at South Hills Village in response to an armed robbery that took place shortly before 10 p.m. Monday outside the mall’s loading dock, said Detective Lance Mattes.
According to police reports, two women, both of whom work at the mall, had just left a food court restaurant when they were approached by a young black man armed with a black, semiautomatic handgun. The suspect removed a purse from the shoulder of one of the women that contained an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is in his early 20s and 5 feet, 5 inches tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Mattes said police are not releasing the name of the restaurant and said the incident is being treated as an armed robbery because a gun was involved. Anyone with information on the robbery or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Bethel Park police at 412-833-2000.
