Area man faces new charges

2 min read

A McDonald man already awaiting trial for allegedly making threatening calls to the borough police station now faces additional charges.

Bennedetto DiPietrantonio Jr., 20, of 105 North St., McDonald, was taken into custody about 11:15 p.m. Sunday by McDonald police on a bench warrant issued by Judge John DiSalle regarding charges of harassment and ethnic intimidation. When he was arrested, police said he was intoxicated and will be charged with underage drinking.

DiPietrantonio was charged by McDonald police Oct. 26 after he allegedly placed several telephone calls and left two messages using obscene language while complaining about parking tickets. He was ordered held for court on the charges in his absence after failing to show up for a Dec. 19 preliminary hearing before former District Judge Valarie Costanzo.

Earlier Sunday, police stopped him on West Lincoln Avenue for an equipment violation. Police said they found him with a small bag of marijuana, a pipe and a grinder. Police also determined he was driving with a suspended license.

Later Sunday, a neighbor called police after DiPietrantonio allegedly threatened her. She told police that he started banging on the ceiling and wall of his apartment, yelling obscenities about 2:30 a.m. When she saw him later the day, he reportedly made the threat.

The neighbor, who lives in the same apartment building, said she and DiPietrantonio have had problems in the past. She admitted to playing music too loudly at times. She told police she did not want to press charges, but wanted him to stop bothering her.

The drug-related charges against DiPietrantonio will be sent by summons from the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
