Park survey updated; affects gas well proceeds
The Washington County commissioners on Thursday approved two documents with Range Resources Inc., one of which increased the size of Cross Creek park by nearly 22 acres, which will affect the sharing of royalties from gas wells within the park.
The new size of the park is 2,433 acres, based on the determination of a certified title examiner hired by Range. The previous title work was done by Great Lakes Energy Partners LLC, with whom the county originally contracted in 2003 to extract natural gas from the park.
The change resulted in a revision for the unitization agreement on wells No. 6 and Nos. 41-44 (horizontal) to allow the sharing of royalties among all interest owners in these two units because a portion of the second group of wells overlaps.
Well No. 41 is not yet on line, said Lisa Cessna, director of the Washington County Planning Commission which oversees county parks, but it is expected to begin producing soon.
Another well, designated No. 5, in Cross Creek Park was to be plugged this week. It began producing in October 2007. Since then, Washington County has received millions of dollars in royalties from the Cross Creek wells.
