Garden club discusses herbs at meeting

Bill Aupperle, owner and chef of the Lardin House in Masontown, presented the program, “Growing and Cooking with Herbs,” at the Rices Landing Town and Country Garden Club’s February meeting.

He discussed the use of herbs – basil, rosemary, mint, oregano, cilantro, chervil, parsley and thyme – and their many uses in cooking.

Recipes were given for their use in marinades, sauces, salsa, meat, poultry, fish and vegetables.

Aupperle maintains his own herb and vegetable garden at the Lardin House.

He also introduced and discussed specialty coffees such as Organo Gold, which is very high in anti-oxidants per 8 ounces of coffee. Other specialties include latte, mocha, and Jamaica Blue Mountain .

Aupperle apprenticed at the Pittsburgh Field Club and has 30 years’ of experience in the food industry.
