Plea deal reached in charges stemming from W.Va. kidnapping case West Virginia man was accused of kidnapping a toddler and driving her through this area
The West Virginia man accused of kidnapping a toddler in Preston County, W.Va., and driving her through this area a year ago entered pleas related to the charges in Washington County but still faces additional felony charges in his home state.
Timothy Adam White, 24, of Morgantown, pleaded guilty Friday morning to felony charges of theft and carrying a firearm without a license, while also pleading no contest to a felony charge of concealing the child’s whereabouts.
He made no comment when Washington County Judge Valarie Costanzo sentenced him to spend 2 to 4 years in a state prison with credit for time served. Additional charges of interfering with the custody of children, child endangerment and driving under the influence of marijuana were not pursued under the plea deal.
Authorities said White kidnapped the 2-year-old girl Feb. 8, 2013, while he was staying with her parents in Preston County. West Virginia State Police said he stole a car and drove into Pennsylvania with the girl. The vehicle apparently ran out of gas on Interstate 79 near the Lone Pine exit. A good Samaritan gave White and the girl a ride to Richeyville, where Pennsylvania State Police said White left the girl with the other man and then stole a cable company’s van.
State police chased the van after spotting it on the Mon-Fayette Expressway before troopers said White crashed it into a police roadblock on Route 51 in Baldwin.
White already pleaded guilty to five counts of reckless endangerment and one charge of resisting arrest in Allegheny County last August and was sentenced to time served.
With his cases now settled in Pennsylvania, White is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence at a state prison before being extradited to West Virginia to faces charges there.
He already was indicted in West Virginia on charges of kidnapping and grand larceny. White’s case is pending there as he awaits arraignment on those charges in Preston County Circuit Court.
