Area police respond to report of suicidal man with gun in Midway
Police from several departments were called Saturday night when a Midway woman fled her home after her husband reportedly grabbed a gun and told her he was going to kill himself.
The woman left her home on Noblestown Road about 10 p.m. She met McDonald police in the parking lot of a borough business and told them that her husband was armed with a rifle and threatening to kill himself.
Police from Cecil, Chartiers, Hanover and Mt. Pleasant townships arrived to assist. The couple’s home was surrounded by police, and Noblestown Road and St. John’s Avenue were shut down in Midway.
After several unsuccessful attempts to contact the man, police were able to use his wife’s cellphone to talk with him. After talking with him for about five minutes, police were able to persuade him to come out with his hands up.
Once outside, the man was ordered to the ground and taken into custody without incident. Police found a rifle inside with a bullet in the chamber. Several prescription bottles containing .22-caliber bullets also were found.
The woman told police the two was experiencing relationship issues and had gotten into an argument when she returned home that night. She told police her husband was intoxicated and became angrier because she wanted to leave.
Police took him to Washington Hospital for evaluation.
