Commissioners, deputy sheriffs ratify pact
The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and the Washington County commissioners have approved a four-year contract effective Jan. 1.
The pact calls for 3 percent raises in 2014 and 2015 and 1.5 percent semiannual raises in 2016 and 2017. It also provides for an increase in on-call pay to $205 per week from $185 per week. The staff sergeant will receive a 15-cent per hour increase, bringing the differential to 75 cents.
The county employed 38 sheriff’s deputies at the close of 2013. Their duties include transporting and escorting prisoners, court and county security details, and serving and posting court documents.
