Accused law enforcement impersonator extradited
A Bentleyville man accused of pretending to be a Pennsylvania constable and retired state trooper to carry out various cons was extradited to Washington County from Missouri, where he was apprehended while on the run in April.
District Judge Ethan Ward Thursday arraigned Timothy Rossell, 26, on a number of warrants accusing him of conning prospective buyers or sellers of vehicles. In one of the cases he is accused of impersonating a state constable to a Glassport man selling a vehicle on Craigslist and taking delivery of the vehicle without paying for it. He allegedly carried out a similar scheme in Bentleyville.
Investigators used social media sites to track him to Washington City, Mo., where U.S. marshals took him into custody April 9.
Southwest Regional police charged Rossell, of 721 Main St., with impersonating a public servant, identity theft, deceptive business practices, unauthorized used of a motor vehicle, theft and forgery, court records show.
He is in Washington County jail on $75,000 bond awaiting a Jan. 21 preliminary hearing.
