1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and related counts for setting a cat on fire in Philadelphia.

The male cat was found severely burned in the city’s Olney section Nov. 10 and had to undergo multiple surgeries during a monthlong stay at a veterinary hospital. Authorities said the tabby cat was doused with a flammable liquid and set ablaze.

Tips and surveillance video led police to charge 21-year-old Tyrique Hall and 18-year-old Jose Sanchez.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said Hall pleaded guilty Monday and could face a maximum 10 years in prison. Sanchez is awaiting trial.

The cat was named Campbell and has been adopted by a Philadelphia firefighter.
