GROVE CITY (AP) – Authorities have identified the young woman whose body was found in a western Pennsylvania landfill and say she was fatally stabbed.

Austintown, Ohio police Chief Bob Gavalier identified the victim Friday as 16-year-old Gina Marie Burger of Austintown. Gavalier says she was last seen alive at 8 p.m. Monday, when she left her apartment on foot. Her mother reported her missing three hours later.

The teen’s body was found Wednesday afternoon at Tri-County Industries in Pine Township, about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Mercer Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III says the girl was stabbed in the chest.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that investigators were able to identify the teen by tracing numbers on steel rods surgically placed in her back to a Texas facility where the surgery was performed.
