Woman allegedly stabbed boyfriend
A Canonsburg woman was arrested by borough police for allegedly stabbing her 58-year-old boyfriend in the left arm with a steak knife during a dispute just after noon Sunday at the couple’s home.
Karen Ann Hibler, 46, of 232 Grace Ave., is accused of stabbing Robert Martin after allegedly biting him during the dispute.
Canonsburg police Sgt. Donald Cross said Hibler and Martin started arguing Saturday night about money. When the argument continued Sunday morning, Martin decided to leave to walk the dog. He was walking in Oak Spring Cemetery when Hibler reportedly arrived in his pickup truck, dragging the keyboard to his computer outside the truck window. He told police that she may have done this to be spiteful because he works from home on his computer.
The two reportedly started to argue, yelling profanities, before she left. Martin told police he stayed in the cemetery for about an hour before returning home.
When he arrived, he said he found Hibler packing items, including satellite television boxes. Martin told police he was concerned because some of the items were his, and he said he took her cellphone as collateral. She allegedly became upset and bit him on the back, then hit him in the forehead with a can of hairspray.
Hibler then reportedly went into the kitchen and returned with the knife. She allegedly threatened him to get him to return the cellphone. When he refused, she allegedly stabbed him, then left the house with her daughter.
Hibler went to the Canonsburg police station, telling officers that she grabbed the knife because Martin tried to choke her. She also told police that he hit her in the head with a bottle. Cross said Hibler showed no sign of injuries and that Martin’s story was more consistent.
Martin was taken to Canonsburg Hospital, where he received staples to close his wound. Hibler and her daughter were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of different medical conditions.
After her release from the hospital, Hibler was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. She was released from Washington County jail after posting $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday before Mark.
