Hall of Honor nominations sought
Canon-McMillan School District will be accepting nominations through Aug. 5 for its Hall of Honor, which recognizes individuals who, through their accomplishments or contributions, have distinguished themselves through academia, athletics, arts, citizenry or valor.
Alumni and community members 30 or older who have made significant contributions to the Canon-McMillan School District community are eligible for nomination.
While nominees do not have to be graduates of the school district, they must have made a positive difference in the Canon-McMillan education community.
Categories for the Hall of Honor include: Academia/scholastic achievement, athletic achievement, artistic achievement, valor and outstanding service to the community.
The first class of five members was inducted into the Hall of Honor, which is on display in the atrium of Canon-McMillan High School, in 2007.
High school Principal David Helinski said nominations are accepted each summer for the new induction class.
Once the nominating period is over, members of the Hall of Honor will vote to see which candidates will be included in the new class, and Helinski said they will be announced at a home football game.
“The Hall of Honor is a tremendous happening in our community, and we are blessed with the resources and support to keep it going and to accomplish it in a first-class manner,” Helinski said.
Hall of Honor member and committee volunteer Kathy Berry said, “All you have to do is ‘read the walls’ of the atrium of the high school to know that the Hall of Honor members are a very special group.”
She added, “It’s interesting to watch students read those plaques and learn how far Canon-McMillan reaches across miles and across history.”
Nomination forms are available at the Canon-McMillan High School main office, at the Canon-McMillan Administration Building, and on the district’s website at http://cmsd.k12.pa.us/cmsd/cm_hallofhonor.
New members will be introduced at the Hall of Honor home football game Sept. 19 and formally inducted at a banquet in June. Members of the new class also will be recognized with certificates from the state House of Representatives and the U.S. Congress.
