Search is on for photographer, photo subjects
These three young men posed for this photo in their dress military uniforms sometime, we believe, in the 1950s. We have no idea who they are and hope our readers can help us solve this puzzle.
The photo was one of nearly 200 images donated recently to the Observer-Reporter’s archive by Wheeling writer and photographer Jim Thornton, who made the images from negatives he purchased at a flea market.
Thornton suspects the pictures were taken by a professional photographer and hopes the O-R can help determine that photographer’s identity.
We hope by sharing some of these photos we will learn not only the identity of the subjects but also who took the photos.
It’s possible that the three in this picture were U.S. Army soldiers, but the lack of insignia suggests they could have been Army Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets. At the far right, a blurred figure can be seen walking in the background. The woodwork appears to be oak and is typical in homes built in the early 1900s.
If you think you can identify any of this trio, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400. With a little help from our readers, we may be able to solve this mystery and publish our findings next Monday.
