HERMITAGE – Police are searching for a man who forced his way into a Western Pennsylvania home and cutting an elderly woman with a utility knife before stealing $5 from her purse.

The (Sharon) Herald reported the incident happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday in Hermitage, a borough about 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.

Police haven’t identified the woman or released her age, but said the suspect threw her to the ground, struck her in the face then cut her before taking the money from her purse.

Neighbors said the woman’s husband has dementia and lives in a nursing home.

The woman was treated at a hospital for her injuries.

Police were still searching for a suspect Monday.
