Washington man arrested after foot chase

2 min read

A Washington man was arrested Friday afternoon by Washington police after allegedly trying to run from officers who were attempting to take him into custody on outstanding warrants.

Javarr Michael Thomas, 19, of 95 Sumner Ave., now faces more charges after police said they found him with suspected heroin, four cellphones and cash.

Police spotted Thomas in the 200 block of Lincoln Terrace. When they told him to stop, he reportedly ran. He was searched after he was caught, and police said they found 39 stamp bags of suspected heroin and $240.

Police obtained warrants for Thomas stemming from two incidents. He was wanted for receiving stolen property after police said they determined a semi-automatic rifle Thomas had at a house in the city’s West End was stolen.

Police received a tip Thomas was at the residence with a gun. Police went to the house March 19 to look for a similar weapon that was stolen in a burglary when they found the other rifle in a locked gun cabinet.

Police learned it was registered to a Hopewell Township man who did not realize his rifle was gone.

Thomas also was wanted on charges of simple assault and theft. He is accused of assaulting Sherrane Sutton during a May 4 confrontation at 246 Lincoln Terrace. He reportedly grabbed her by the arms and slammed her against a wall several times, city police said. He also pinned her against a counter, then allegedly stole $140 before leaving the home, according to police.

City police charged him with possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of marijuana and flight to avoid apprehension in connection with Friday’s incident. He was arraigned on all charges before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $35,000 bond.
