West Greene to graduate 48 Friday
West Greene High School will hold commencement exercises for 48 seniors at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony will be valedictorian Mattison Hope Evans; salutatorian Rebecca Phillips; class officer Haley Fullerton; honors speaker Rocco Scalzi; high school principal Scott Sakai; and Superintendent Thelma Szarell.
Evans, daughter of Chad and Alanna Scott of Nineveh, will attend West Chester University and major in cellular and molecular biology and minor in Spanish with plans to attend medical school.
She was treasurer of the National Honor Society, president of the Spanish club and was a member of the science club, drama club, forensics team, jazz band, concert band, art club, and participated on the school’s track and basketball teams.
Evans received several awards through the Challenge Program, won an award at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science at regional and state levels and received the Berth S. Hook Memorial Scholarship.
Phillips, daughter of Shane and Linette Phillips of Sycamore, will attend Saint Francis University in the fall, where she will participate in cross country and track and field. She has been accepted into the physician assistant science accelerated program.
She was corresponding secretary of the National Honor Society, president of the chemistry club, captain of the envirothon team, cross country club, rifle team and track and field team. She also was a member of the science club.
Phillips received the Saint Francis University Presidential Scholarship for $40,000, Pennsylvania Leaders of Tomorrow Award, Presidential Award for Education Excellence, American Legion Post #416 Scholarship, West Greene Lions Club Scholarship and the Bill Christy Sportsmanship Scholarship.
Outside of school, she is an 11-year member of the Greene County 4-H market steer club and an eight-year member of the Greene county 4-H goat club, serving as vice president.
