County jail upgrading security system
Act 13 impact fees from natural gas extracted from Marcellus Shale will be paying for new security equipment at Washington County jail.
Com-Tec Security LLC of Greenville, Wis., was the low bidder at $89,633 for cameras and a digital video recording system.
That and a $43,300 contract with Lighthouse Electric, Canonsburg, for wiring required for the system is expected to be awarded today by the county commissioners.
The new booking center at the jail will have fingerprinting and video arraignment equipment purchased at a cost of $32,169 from the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association in Harrisburg, to be paid for from the booking center operating budget.
Warden John Temas and Deputy Warden Edward Strawn will be traveling, at no cost to the county, to the national memorial service and seminar hosted by the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation this month in Bellevue, Wash. The non-profit charitable organization, founded in 1984, is based in Sacramento, Calif.
The group assists families of corrections officers killed in the line of duty and encourages communication, fellowship and connection among corrections officers and their families. The organization aided with the formation of the jail’s honor guard.
Temas noted at the prison board meeting Wednesday that hired as part of a pool of part-timers for the jail was Chanel Allen, a licensed practical nurse.
