Carmichaels graduate gets Doman scholarship
CARMICHAELS – Tyler Cole, a 2014 Carmichaels Area Junior/Senior High School graduate, was recently awarded the Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship through the Community Foundation of Greene County.
Cole, a son of Rob and Angela Cole of Carmichaels, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship at the school’s award program.
Rocky Doman’s parents, Bob and Patti Doman, were on hand to present the award.
Cole played baseball and basketball for Carmichaels High School, as well as travel baseball and summer baseball.
During his baseball career, he was a four-year varsity starter, playing second base before moving to shortstop.
Cole led the high school team in RBIs (27) his junior year and was named third in WPIAL Class A. His senior year, he was team captain and named MSA Sports Class A “Player to Watch.”
According to one of Cole’s recommendations, Tyler’s “understanding of team chemistry is far beyond his years and is one of the reasons he has developed an incredibly well-honed leadership role in band, baseball, and student relations. His attention to detail is only overshadowed by his caring for others in his charge. Tyler will always put those around him before self and self-interest.”
Cole plans to attend Salem International University where he will major in physical education and play baseball.
The Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship Fund was created at the Community Foundation of Greene County by his parents, Bob and Patti, and his fiancé’ Tiffany Grim, following his death in 2008.
Rocky, a 2000 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School, was an outstanding high school football player who won numerous awards and accolades.
He was one of only four Greene County players to rush for 4,000 yards. The scholarship is open to a senior male or female student from Greene County who is planning to pursue a degree at a two- or four-year institution of higher education, is a standout athlete, and demonstrates the qualities of a team player with a humble spirit.
The Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship is made possible through the contributions of many individuals, businesses and corporations who participated in the Rocky Doman Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing.
