Pittsburgh mayor marries 19 same-sex couples
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto has conducted his first wedding since taking office in January – a group ceremony for 19 same-sex couples in City Council chambers.
The weddings coincided with the Pittsburgh Pridefest, and some of the couples had marched in the Pride Parade sponsored by the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh before they were married Sunday.
The weddings became possible after a federal judge on May 20 struck down a state law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
