Man tells family he ‘didn’t do’ Beaver County double murder

1 min read

BEAVER (AP) – One of two men accused of killing a couple six years ago while their young children were locked in another room has told relatives of the victims that he is innocent.

The Beaver County Times reports that during a break in testimony Tuesday in Beaver County Court, 27-year-old Devon Shealey said quietly “I didn’t do it” while motioning to the victim’s family as they left the courtroom.

Shealey faces charges including homicide, kidnapping, robbery and a firearms count in the June 2008 murders of Richard and Demetria Harper. They were found bound and shot in the basement of their Beaver Falls home in what authorities allege was a drug dispute.

Thirty-seven-year-old Robert Burgess is scheduled to go on trial in October in the case.
