Western Pa. officer acquitted in 2012 traffic stop case
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania police officer has been acquitted in a traffic stop in which the motorist alleged that he used his gun to break a vehicle window and threatened to charge her unless she paid for the damage to his weapon.
Jurors in Allegheny County on Tuesday acquitted Whitaker officer William Davis of all counts of perjury, false swearing, unsworn falsification to authorities and official oppression.
Davis said he stopped the car in June 2012 as part of a drug investigation, but the woman said he was in an unmarked car and street clothes. She said he ordered her to roll down the window but broke it before she could do so.
Defense attorney William Difenderfer said Davis couldn’t see through the tinted window and feared for his safety.
