Humane agent halts use of live rabbits as prizes

1 min read

BEAVER (AP) — A carnival in Beaver, Pennsylvania, isn’t using live rabbits as prizes after a Humane Society agent halted the practice.

The Beaver County Times reported Friday that the animal welfare agency fielded several complaints after people were handed the rabbits at the carnival in Quay Park.

The paper says an animal enforcement agent found 12 rabbits in a case deemed too small to hold them. State law prohibits the use of any animals except fish as prizes for drawings, contests or games.

The fair operator, Dreshler Amusements of Wellsville, Ohio, didn’t return a request for comment from the newspaper.
