Steelton church collapses
STEELTON – Authorities in central Pennsylvania said an abandoned church has partially collapsed, damaging an adjacent home and displacing two families.
Steelton Mayor Thomas Acri said Sunday he wants to knock down the building as soon as possible. Officials are concerned another part of the structure might crumble into the street.
The church’s roof caved in Saturday night, pulling down part of its facade. No injuries were reported.
Acri said the former house of worship has been vacant for a few years. He told PennLive.com borough officials have not been able to identify its owner.
The former church leader and his wife have died, and property records come up empty. Acri also said the town can’t afford to pay for demolition work.
