Budget passed
McGuffey School Board adopted a 2014-15 budget Monday night that includes a 3.2-mill tax increase.
The $30.1 million budget’s tax increase equates to an extra $7 to $10 a year for the average homeowner in the district. The increase brings the millage rate to 123.2, with the biggest contributing factors in the increase being retirement obligations, personnel and transportation.
Business manager Scott Burchill said expenses keep rising, and revenue from the state is going in the other direction.
“It’s definitely a struggle,” he said. “We are trying to minimize increases, but most things we can control don’t have a major impact. Plus, we haven’t gotten new revenue from the state and have no growth within the district.”
