Western Pa. double murder case goes to jury

1 min read

BEAVER (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania jury must now decide the fate of one of two men accused of killing a couple six years ago while their young children were locked in another room.

The Beaver County Times reports that closing arguments were delivered Tuesday in the Beaver County trial of 27-year-old Devon Shealey of Pittsburgh.

Shealey is charged in the June 2008 murders of Richard and Demetria Harper, who were found bound and shot in the basement of their Beaver Falls home in what authorities allege was a drug dispute.

Public defender Kevin Kindred cited inconsistencies in the description of the assailants and tried to cast doubt on the credibility of prosecution witnesses.

Thirty-seven-year-old Robert Burgess is scheduled to go on trial in October in the case.
