Former Pa. state Sen. Mowery dies at 84
HARRISBURG (AP) – Harold F. “Hal” Mowery Jr., a former state lawmaker for nearly three decades from central Pennsylvania, has died. He was 84.
Mowery’s son, Ted Mowery, said his father died Monday night after battling several illnesses, including pneumonia.
Mowery, of Camp Hill in suburban Harrisburg, served 14 years in the state House of Representatives from 1976 to 1990. In 1990, he ran as the Republican Party’s nominee for lieutenant governor on the losing ticket with gubernatorial candidate Barbara Hafer.
He then served three terms in the state Senate from 1993 to 2004 before retiring to return to his insurance brokerage. While in the Senate, he was a prominent voice on legislation dealing with health care and insurance.
He is survived by his wife, three children and eight grandchildren.
