Commissioners recognize IDD program
WAYNESBURG – Greene County commissioners Wednesday proclaimed March 2014 as Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month during their agenda meeting.
The proclamation offers advocates of developmental disabilities an opportunity to educate the public, policymakers and other system professionals about the challenges that come with intellectual disabilities. The proclamation recognizes the thousands of service providers that support individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead full and productive lives within society.
Commissioners recognized Kevin Cunningham Jr., of Graysville, an Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities program participant who works part time for Jacobs Petroleum.
The commissioners and IDD staff also presented Cunningham with a special certificate acknowledging his achievements in the community, including gaining employment and completing his program.
The commissioners today are expected to award contracts for a new roof for the Ben Franklin office building on High Street, and for a new storage garage and storm water improvements at the county fairgrounds.
The county will use Marcellus Shale impact fees to pay for both projects.
The commissioners also are planning to make several decisions relative to the Community Development Block Grant program, including holding a public hearing during its meeting in on the county’s grant modification.
