Trinity mulling oil and gas program with PTI

2 min read

Trinity Area School Board is mulling a program with Pittsburgh Technical Institute that would allow Trinity High School students to take oil and gas industry-related classes taught by PTI faculty at Trinity, enabling students to earn credits that would be transferrable to the technical school.

Jeff Belsky, vice president of strategy at PTI, proposed working with the school district to create an associate degree-level program designed to prepare students for careers in the oil and gas industry.

Belsky said Trinity would be the first high school to collaborate with PTI on a program and said there would be no cost to the district for the program.

In other action, the school board voted unanimously to eliminate the Chinese program at the end of the school year after Chinese teacher Chinyu Hsu resigned from her position. Students enrolled in the Chinese I and II courses will complete their classes via the distance learning company Live Video Network at a cost not to exceed $2,600.

Also:

• Athletic director Bobby Jones and supporters of the girls lacrosse team asked the board to approve the team as a high school club sport.

• The board voted to eliminate the district’s nepotism policies regarding administrators and professional and classified employees, pending a review by the board.
