Police: Heroin, money seized from N.Y. duo in traffic stop

A New York man and woman are facing charges of heroin possession stemming from a state police pursuit in Washington Sunday in which the driver eluded capture.
Police arrested the passengers, Nikaya R. Lee, 20, and Dontrice J. Lee, 24, after allegedly finding 50 bags of the drug in the vehicle’s console. The driver fled on foot upon stopping the car about 9:30 p.m. at Brookside Avenue and Broad Street, court records show.
Police initially attempted to stop the car at Buena Vista Street and McCarrell Avenue, but the driver sped off, leading police on a high-speed chase on several streets and alleys, the affidavit states.
The driver eventually stopped at Brookside and Broad, then ran down Brookside Avenue while police were detaining the two passengers.
The suspects told police they didn’t know the driver, and that he picked them up at a fast-food restaurant.
Police seized $575 from Nikaya Lee and $40 from Dontrice Lee, and charged both with drug possession with intent to deliver and drug possession. The car was impounded to be searched.
Dontrice Lee was remanded to Washington County jail on $50,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins. Nikaya Lee is free on $35,000 bond.
