2 min read

Date: March 10

Action: Council voted unanimously to enter into a contract with a second vendor for salt supplies. Currently, the township reserved 4,000 tons through the South Hills Association of Council of Governments. It has agreed to an additional salt contract for 1,000 tons through COSTARS, a state program. No price was listed for either contract.

In other action, council:

• Awarded a contract to ServiceMaster by Guthrie for custodial services for all of the township buildings. The contract is for three years at a cost of $78,636 for the first year, $79,812 for the second year and $79,812 for the third year. ServiceMaster by Guthrie is the current provider for the township. Only two firms submitted bids, and ServiceMaster was the lower bidder.

• Approved a fleet safety program by a vote of 5-1, with Councilwoman Monica Merrell voting no. Councilwoman Meghan Jones Rolla was absent. The program was approved at the suggestion of the township’s insurance provider.

• Approved a resolution to amend the job description for the township’s land-use planner position. The position is vacant.

• Recognized police Officer Dave Stanton for his work as the township’s DARE officer, a position he has held for more than 25 years.

• Heard resident Sam Gregg praise the township’s firefighters after his barn on Frosty Valley Road caught fire Sunday. Gregg said while many residents complain, he wanted to offer “a pat on the back for a job well done.”

• Announced FirstEnergy will conduct helicopter tree trimming along utility lines. No cutting will be done in residential areas or in or near the parks. All affected property owners will be notified by letter.

• Announced June 1 is Peters Township Day at a Wild Things game. Tickets are $10, with $5 going to a selected township group. More information will be announced.

• Reminded residents there are new stop signs at the intersection of Bebout Road with Froebe and Bower Hill roads.
