Worker’s arm severed at North Strabane manufacturing plant The North Strabane man’s arm was severed at the elbow when it was pulled into a spindle
A worker’s right arm was severed in an industrial accident at a North Strabane Township manufacturing plant Tuesday morning.
David Zuzek, 63, of North Strabane, was adjusting drill bits on a machine at Lincoln Hydraulics on Meadowlands Boulevard about 9:30 a.m. when his arm became stuck in a spindle and it was severed at the elbow, township police said.
Zuzek was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. His condition was not released.
Investigators think loose clothing might have caused the machine to pull Zuzek’s arm into the spindle.
Chris Robinson, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s area director in Pittsburgh, said the company immediately notified the agency of the incident. He said the agency is now investigating, but that it is too early to speculate if the company committed any violations.
