Private disciplinary hearing postponed
A disciplinary hearing for North Strabane Township’s suspended parks and recreation director was postponed until next month. The private hearing for Greg Sulc was scheduled for Wednesday but will instead be held April 23 at the municipal building. At that time, Sulc will have the chance to defend himself against any accusations brought forward by the township.
Sulc was suspended indefinitely with pay by township Manager Frank Siffrinn after the board of supervisors’ workshop meeting Feb. 18. Sulc was required to turn over his taxpayer-funded cellphone and work vehicle, and the township continues to investigate whether he participated in political activities while on work time.
The investigation centers around an email Sulc sent to the media from his work account Feb. 12 announcing the candidacy of township Supervisor Sonia Stopperich for state House. Sulc, who is dating Stopperich and is her assistant campaign treasurer, also attended the League of Women Voters legislative luncheon with her at Springhill Suites in Trinity Point during work hours Feb. 14.
The board of supervisors also will consider revisions to the township’s outdated cellphone policy, written in 2000. Currently, the policy prohibits only calls for adult entertainment, sports betting, merchandise purchases or “supernatural-type entertainment.” The policy said nothing about data usage, text messages, email or personal use for the phone.
Township solicitor James Jeffries said he is working on several drafts of a revised cellphone policy and will soon review them with Siffrinn.
“I anticipate it being considered and probably voted on next week by this board,” Jeffries said.
