Unwanted guest roams hospital

WAYNESBURG – A former Washington County man was charged Monday with criminal trespass for entering the Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg after he was told he could not be there unless he was seeking medical attention.
Ryan Avery-Vaughn Tyler, 26, of 155 N. Woodland Ave., Waynesburg, who previously lived on Burton Avenue, Washington, allegedly was roaming the hospital’s halls for a couple of months.
According to a criminal complaint filed before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates, Tyler was discovered by hospital personnel in patient rooms and employee areas and when confronted by hospital employees in February, he claimed he was a speech therapist transferred there from Washington Hospital.
Hospital staff, concerned with employee and patient safety, called state police. Trooper Duane Spangler spoke to Tyler at his residence Feb. 28 and told Tyler he was not permitted at Southwest Regional Medical Center except for medical treatment.
On March 14, Spangler was contacted by Kevin Simms, director of facilities at Southwest Regional Medical Center, who reported Tyler again was discovered roaming the hospital.
He confronted Tyler and told him to leave, which he reluctantly did, according to the complaint.
Tyler faces an additional charge of disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. April 16 before Bates.
