Police Beat March 21
Weapon seen: Canonsburg police were called Wednesday afternoon to Adams Avenue after several people, including employees at Sarris Candies, reported seeing a man wearing a yellow, hooded shirt carrying a long gun in the area. After searching the area, police determined it was an Adams Avenue resident, who told officers he had taken the pellet gun out to test fire it before selling it at a flea market. He told police he would no longer take the gun outside.
Drug charge: Steven L. Dillard, 45, of Canonsburg, faces a charge of possession of crack after he was found with the suspected drug while a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police on Addison Street in Canton early Thursday, state police said. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Fugitive arrested: Mark A. Herron, 22, of Middletown, Ohio, was arrested Thursday morning by Cecil police as a fugitive from justice. Police said they were called to Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe because Herron and another man were in the motel’s computer room and were unable to pay for a room. Police checked and learned Herron was wanted on a fugitive warrant in Kentucky for theft by failure to make required disposition of more than $10,000. He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail without bond, pending extradition to Kentucky.
Burglary: About $350 in tools and a collector book filled with 50 quarters from the 50 states were stolen from Klements Auto, 712 Morganza Road, township police said. Entry was made through a front window. The burglary was reported at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Theft of scaffolding: About $1,500 in scaffolding was stolen from a construction site at 604 Breezewood Drive before 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, township police said. The scaffolding is owned by J.P. Masonry.
Grates stolen: Several sewer grates on School Hill Road were stolen before 8:47 p.m. Wednesday, township police said.
Items stolen: Patrick Ellis of Washington told Chartiers police Tuesday that a white Galaxy tablet, headphones and $20 were stolen from a book bag he mistakenly left on a school bus. He told police he rode the bus from Washington High School to a track meet at Canon-McMillan High School. The bus then went to Western Area Career and Technology Center to pick up students before returning to Canon-McMillan. The book bag was on the bus, but the items had been stolen.
Chain saws stolen: John Thomas of 217 Roth St. told Chartiers police Wednesday that two chain saws were stolen from his shed.
Assault, disorderly charges: Lloyd Miller, 42, of Pittsburgh, was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Robert Redlinger on two counts of disorderly conduct and one count each of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. He is accused of striking Jeanette Kelly twice in the side of the face and on her body during an incident last July at 63 S. Wade Ave. When she want to get help, he allegedly tore up their apartment. Police said an officer had to use a Taser on Miller when he used broken glass to cut himself. Miller was released on his own recognizance.
Park damaged: McDonald police are looking for an older model, dark red Dodge Durango seen on video surveillance damaging fields about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Park. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-926-2105.
Station guide damaged: McDonald police said a Plexiglas station guide along the McDonald Trail was damaged by vandals Monday.
Paraphernalia, traffic charges: Rory Thomas Bistarkey, 27, of 3701 Millers Run Road, McDonald, was charged Thursday by McDonald police with possession of paraphernalia, driving under suspension and an equipment violation stemming from a traffic stop Saturday on South McDonald Street. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
Tools stolen: Tools were reported stolen Tuesday from Rock, Mulch and More, 839 Robinson Highway, McDonald police said.
Retail theft arrest: Adam Benjamin Arena, 34, of 718 Locust Ave., Washington, faces a charge of retail theft after allegedly stealing $289.64 in items from Walmart, Trinity Point, Wednesday, South Strabane police said. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Drug, disorderly charges: Shawn Taylor, 41, of Pittsburgh, was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. A Washington County sheriff’s deputy filed the charges stemming from a July incident at Washington County Courthouse. Taylor reportedly went into the information technology office, looking for the clerk of courts office. He allegedly was swearing and giving the staff a hard time, so deputies were called. They said they found him with marijuana and paraphernalia. He was placed in Washington County jail on a $10,000 percentage bond.
Students charged: Two Washington girls, ages 10 and 11, were charged Wednesday afternoon with harassment after fighting on a GG&C bus traveling in the 200 block of South College Street. The bus driver alerted Washington police.
Paraphernalia charge: Gary Salansky, 48, of 930 Summerlea Ave., Washington, was charged Thursday by Washington police with possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with an incident at his home March 10. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Rock thrown: Vonda Lawton of Claysville told Washington police she was driving north in the 400 block of Alley A on Wednesday when a juvenile threw a rock through a window on her vehicle. Lawton said she saw a boy and girl running toward Jefferson Avenue. The area was searched, but the juveniles were not located.
