An Atlasburg man was arrested Friday on a charge of distribution of child pornography, the state attorney general’s office said.

Agents identified Christopher Welshans, 36, 53 Fourth St., as a suspect in the case while conducting an online investigation into the distribution of child pornography and linking such files to his computer, Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane announced.

Assisted by police from Smith and Hanover townships, the agents executed a search of Welshans’ residence and seized multiple computers. The items were previewed by computer forensics agents and alleged to have contained suspected child pornography.

Welshans was arraigned before District Magistrate Gary Hevelka on 40 counts, including child pornography and criminal use of a communication device. He was placed in Washington County jail on $200,000 bond.
