Student hospitalized after shooting self

A Washington & Jefferson College student was rushed by ambulance to Washington Hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday afternoon, city police Chief Chris Luppino said.
The male student, who was not identified, shot himself in the chest about 2:30 p.m. while inside his dorm room at Bica-Ross Hall on campus, Luppino said.
Luppino said the student was breathing when medics rushed him to the hospital.
As of Thursday evening, the student was still alive, according to Luppino.
No other students were injured and the campus was not locked down. W&J spokeswoman Karen Oosterhous declined to comment.
