Mt. Morris resident arrested for armed robbery
BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. – A Mt. Morris man was arrested by West Virginia state police Monday and charged with the armed robbery Sunday of the Belko Foods Store in Blacksville, W.Va.
Timothy Mitchell, 28, is accused of robbing Belko Foods at 5:15 p.m. He allegedly pulled a gun on the cashier and ordered her to empty the cash register.
Mitchell also will be questioned by Pennsylvania state police in regard to robberies in Fayette County as well as one at a convenience store in Dilliner Saturday night, said West Virginia State Police Trooper Patrick Maiden.
State police in Waynesburg investigated an armed robbery at the 9-2-9 Store about 8 p.m. Saturday. The investigating officer was not available Monday for comment.
A bench warrant also had been issued for Mitchell on Jan. 13 by the Greene County Court after Mitchell failed to appear for a hearing in regard to an escape charge.
Mitchell was arrested Monday afternoon at a motel in Morgantown, W.Va., without incident. He was being held in the Monongalia County, W.Va., sheriff’s lockup and will be charged with robbery, Maiden said.
Maiden said Mitchell’s description from the Belko robbery and the vehicle in which he fled closely matched those in the Dilliner store robbery.
Police allege Mitchell entered Belko Foods, picked up a few items and then waited until all other customers in the store checked out before he approached the cashier.
He pulled out a small automatic pistol and ordered the cashier to empty the register, Maiden said. Mitchell was wearing a red bandana on his head, blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.
He left the store and jumped into a car waiting for him that was driven by a woman. The car was believed to be a black or dark green Toyota Corolla.
Monday afternoon the car was spotted by a Monongalia County sheriff’s deputy in the parking lot of a Morgantown motel. Police went to the motel and arrested Mitchell without incident. The woman also was arrested. Her name was not available Monday.
